A Journey Through Time: Kenwyn House Opens Its Doors to 170 Years of History
Victoria, Seychelles – April 17, 2025 - Kenwyn House, a treasured landmark in the heart of Victoria, has taken centre stage this April with the launch of its commemorative exhibition, "A Glimpse of Heritage – 170 Years of Kenwyn House.”

Observing the Kenwyn House Timeline
The exhibition officially opened on Tuesday, April 9th, inviting the public to journey through the historic residence’s transformation over nearly two centuries. Through archival photographs, personal letters, and architectural records, as well as incredible pieces by both established and amateur artists, depicting their interpretation of the iconic house - the exhibition tells the story of Kenwyn House’s enduring place in Seychelles’ cultural and historical fabric.

Guests at the launch event were treated to a special live performance by Leko Tradisyon, an association devoted to engaging youth in traditional music, dance, and crafts as a way to keep them meaningfully active and off the streets. Their mission — to preserve culture while protecting the future generation — deeply resonated with Gran Kaz, who marked the occasion with a SCR 15,000 donation in support of their valuable work.

"Kenwyn House is more than just a heritage building. It is a living reminder of how our stories, spaces, and identities are woven together — and how important it is to keep that history alive for generations to come," said Gran Kaz PR Manager, Shama Amesbury, during the opening ceremony.
As part of the exhibition's public programme and in celebration of World Art Day, the Kenwyn House Painting Competition 2025 Prize-Giving Ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 15th. The competition encouraged youth to interpret heritage and identity through the lens of art, using Kenwyn House as their muse.
Winners were announced across three age categories:
In the Young Palettes category (Ages 10-15), it was Helina Bhugawoo who captured hearts and imaginations alike, taking first place with her evocative piece “When History Comes to Life.” Kampamba Songwe followed closely with “A Glimpse of the Past,” a tender reflection that earned her second place. Helina’s vision also resonated deeply with the public, earning her the People’s Choice Award and solidifying her place as a standout young talent.
