Echoes of Time – Capturing Heritage Through the Lens
Victoria, Seychelles – The walls of Kenwyn House came alive on Tuesday evening, August 19, as history, memory, and artistry converged in the third edition of the Kenwyn House Amateur Photography Competition. With this year’s theme, “Echoes of Time”, photographers of all ages and backgrounds were invited to explore the timelessness of Seychelles’ heritage through their lenses.
What began three years ago as a vision to nurture grassroots creativity has now become a cherished annual tradition, thanks to the commitment of Gran Kaz. More than just a sponsor, Gran Kaz has been the driving force behind this competition, offering a platform for aspiring photographers to find their voice, showcase their talent, and celebrate the cultural fabric of Seychelles.
The evening was filled with anticipation as guests gathered at the historic Kenwyn House gallery to witness the unveiling of the winners across three categories – Young Lenses, Rising Visionaries, and Master Frames.
In the Young Lenses (Ages 10–15) category, the future of local photography shone brightly.

Xavier Rosalie, who took home 1st place in the Rising Visionaries category with his piece Old Prison, revealed that the win took him completely by surprise:
“I’m currently working on a school project about abandoned buildings and had taken some incredible photos that I thought fit the theme. I submitted Old Prison, but never in a million years did I think I would actually win first place in my category.”

When asked about the inspiration behind her submission, Roselda shared:
“Everyday on my way to and from school I see this old banked ship. I’ve always been curious about it and through research I found out that it has a lot of history for us. It used to bring cargo, but also transported people to and from the inner islands, and was even used to transport some of our exports like copra and cinnamon. This made me think it was the perfect subject for my photograph.”

Finally, the Master Frames (Ages 21+) category reminded us that photography is as much about wisdom and patience as it is about creativity.
