On Monday, 8th September 2025 – International Literacy Day – a small group of pupils from primary schools around Mahé gathered at the Children’s Library of the Seychelles National Library for a very special occasion. Gran Kaz officially handed over copies of the Illustrated History of Seychelles by local artist Peter Lalande, giving the children a first glimpse into the colourful volumes that bring their nation’s past to life.

One young attendee read aloud from the book, captivating the group with stories of the islands’ earliest days, while another beamed:

“This is exciting because we just started learning about the history of Seychelles at school.”

Moments like these highlighted the very purpose of the donation — to spark curiosity, connection, and pride in Seychelles’ heritage.

The Illustrated History of Seychelles is a three-volume collection that traces the nation’s journey from the first settlers to independence. With its engaging illustrations and vivid storytelling, it is designed to make history both accessible and enjoyable for children.

“This collection is more than a history lesson,” said Shama Amesbury, PR Manager at Gran Kaz “It’s about connecting children with their roots, their culture, and their identity in a way that excites them.”

The Seychelles National Library welcomed the donation as a meaningful addition to its resources for young readers. For Gran Kaz, this handover is another step in its ongoing mission to support local arts, culture, and tradition, while also fostering literacy and education in the community.

As the children carefully flipped through the brightly illustrated pages after the event, it was clear that the books had already begun their journey — inspiring a new generation to discover the story of Seychelles in their own way.
